The United Kingdom local elections are approaching on the 2nd of May 2024. 107 local councils (not including the London Assembly) have elections. How many will have a majority of Conservative Party councillors after the elections?

By my calculations there are 16 Conservative councils at present. Because some councils are elected in thirds, two councils are guaranteed Conservative control after the election. Conversely, if the Conservative party stood candidates in all seats and won them all, it could only win 54 councils.

This will resolve after all the election results are published and tabulated to the number of councils with a majority of councillors that belong to the Conservative party.

My calculations may not be 100% accurate, as I have not accounted for byelections or defections. If there is a landslide and the actual result is outside of the range specified, I'll resolve to the boundary.

@traders The final council results have now come in. The Conservative party has lost 10 councils and now controls only 6. This will resolve to 2-7.
