multiple reports that google laid off ~ 1000 people from various departments - this number is not confirmed yet but it is highly likely that it is above 1000 (see discussions in the market linked below)
multiple reports that amazon laid off ~ 1000 people from twitch and various organizations but it is contested whether this number actually exceeded 1000
in both cases no one seems to think the number is close to 2000
