The last time we ran this game, it didn't go so well. However, @bens gave me another starting seed out of the blue.

I can't just not follow up on that. I can't leave that on my conscience. That would be shameful of me.
@bens is the 0th Manifolder in this chain. I am the 1st. The same Manifolder cannot be in the chain more than once.
A new Manifolder is added to the chain when the last Manifolder in the chain managrams another user with a memo that contains and starts with the phrase "double it and pass it on" (non-case sensitive). I may make good-faith exceptions to this memo rule at my discretion.
The managram needs at least double the mana they had received.
Additionally, their managram needs to be made within 48 hours, down to the second, of them receiving their initiating managram to count. 48:00:00 after counts. 48:00:01 does not.
Only the 1st valid managram sent by a user counts. Sending multiple to the same or different users will not count the 2nd attempt and beyond.
Market resolves to how many Manifolders successfully "doubled it and passed it on" with valid managrams. (This is not how many Manifolders are in the chain -- the starting seed doesn't count.) Only one market answer will resolve YES. The rest, NO.
Shame upon the Manifolder who breaks the chain. That, or shame may be brought upon the Manifolder who sends their managram payload to an inactive or distrustful user.
I cannot trade on this market.

@MaxE is next in the chain. The count is 4. If the chain shamefully breaks here, "4" resolves YES. The rest, NO. The minimum for the next managram is 512 mana.

There will be no more Twists from me from here on out. I may still bargain and make deals, but this is the end of my road map.
If you all want to make your own "sidequests", I leave it to the community! (I do want to see the Futarchy sidequest.)
If we make it to the Final Boss Fight, I might be interested in seeing if we can get an art piece commissioned from a Manifold artist for all of our shenanigans here. Reach out if you are interested in making (or even contributing to the funding of) such a venture.
@Quroe you should add a running list of who was each person in the chain in the market description
@bens That was essentially the idea behind the companion market, and I'm trying to keep space at a premium up there. Does everybody else want this?
@bens Now that you mention it, I resolved them out of order over there. I think it's justified to make the list here. Granted!

@SimonWestlake Absolute cinema. You even left Chekhov's Gun on the wall for us in the trade ledger by betting "3" down multiple times.

I want my haters to put their mana where their mouth is
Very interesting market, but I think it would be even more interesting to get a version of this where the participants dont have to double the mana themselves in the spirit of the tiktok trend/meme. I would do it, but I would be wiped out by just 8 doublings (starting at 10m), which seems pretty likely to happen.
@Xizted Agreed, it also bothered me a bit that it is functionally different from the original experiment.
@Xizted @4fa This market would not exist if it was the original setup. The only real "fun" from watching the original version is watching the host get exponentially more and more financially ruined, and then have one little celebration at the end when a random person finally ends it. I do not have infinite mana to fund that endeavor. Perhaps the Manifold staff could do it with their infinite mana printer.
Here, we actually get to test something tangible: group trust. We also get to see the effects of personal sacrifice and how useful of a signal that is in social group cohesion. We get to see moral capital become manifest.
That, or you get to see if Manifold can do what Manifold does best: be cunning. You get to see if somebody passes the torch to somebody intent on breaking the game and ruining it. Such is the reality of releasing an artistic idea to the internet and seeing what the internet does to it.
Either way, this current setup seems like a better one for generating entertaining drama.
@Quroe idea: double-it-and-pass-it-on back-and-forth-edition.
Like what we currently have now but the two players can only pass it to eachother and the game ends when one of them chickens out.
Not volunteering because I don't have enough liquidity to make for an interesting game.
@Quroe Yeah, my comment was just general and not directly to you or even this exact market as this was my first discovery of this whole concept in here. It would require a lot of mana to actually do it, but it probably would be a bit different than the current setup as the means/funds of the reciever would not affect the decision as directly.
@Xizted @Quroe In theory, anything between the original set-up and this version is possible: E. g. both the candidate and the host contribute 50% (or some other percentages) of the doubling amount; or there is a 1/3 chance (determined by FairlyRandom) that the next round is "half if and pass it on", so on average it still grows exponentially, but some people in the chain win mana rather than losing it; orβ¦
One-Up Manifold Ship (+1 brownie point if you see my clever wordplay)
Community votes for who they want to be Player 1 and Player 2. Players must consent to be on the ballot.
Player 1 and Player 2 echo managrams back and forth to each other once per day. Each managram must be exactly +1 more than the one they received to count.
Game ends when a player doesn't echo.
We make a binary market about who will win and not be the one to end the chain.
@Wott One-Up Manifold Ship could be interesting if one could make a script that could automatically adjudicate that game. Manually checking the managram ledger each day could get tedious if we are incrementing +1 each day instead of doubling.
Doubling it might be better for the drama due to exponentially increasing stakes and the impetus for audience members to meddle and participate.
You birthed the idea. You have full rights to act on it first if you want to launch it.
@Quroe The issue with +1 is that you could easily earn mana fast enough to keep up with the cost indefinitely
regardless of whether it's +1, One-Up Manifold Ship is too good a name to pass up on.
one thing I would add is that I think it would be more fun if we drop the shame thing. Make it so the incentive to pass on is purely the prospect of getting an even bigger payout
Maybe even auction off the two spots so players are trying to at least break even.
@Quroe if you want to run it feel free to do it however you like it.
@Wott I release the idea to the masses if anybody wants to take a stab at it. That being said, I'll consider running it after this game is done.
