Things like:
having more money/resources
being prettier/more attractive
being more charismatic
than someone else can all feel like a way to (partially) impose your will on that person. All these factors making up our status make people inclined to do stuff for us, often subconsciously.
In other cases it can be fully conscious and take the form of a power play.
Do we perform little acts of violence on people around us constantly? Can we even compare two people without violence? What is status?
Discussion in the comments is welcome, obviously.
This market will resolve to the side with the greater # of positions at time of close, or 50% in case of a tie. I may bet here.

I think no, because there are instances of social status that aren't related to violence between higher and lower. One of these instances could be in a feudal setting, where one person serves another for protection. Another more modern example might be that we subscribe to the idea of status at all, for the privilege of entering into the social contract. That is, maybe we accept that status is a thing, so that we can have a society in which mostly everyone benefits. Status in that case might be based more off of cooperation than violence.
Just my thoughts, I'm not commited but I am voting.
NO. Social status is based on how many people & resources you can recruit to cooperate with you, to meet your needs or advance your own projects.
Violent threat is only one way (and not a very stable way) to recruit people. Having resources to trade, having skills to help others with their projects, being pretty, having an existing large & profitable network of cooperators, etc. are all sources of social status that do not have to involve violence.

We of the YES tribe outnumber the NO tribe two to one. If this trend continues our victory is guaranteed. Join us and together we will beat those fools that think questions such as these are about truth rather than about acquiring mana through violence.
@inactive1234 self resolving questions = free mana!
especially when based on # of traders and not percentage at close
@milanw I probably couldn't define it and I prefer a more situational "I know it when I see it" approach.
This question is also trying to ask what violence is. We know more or less what makes up social status. How does your idea of violence relate to that?
