Things like:

  • having more money/resources

  • being prettier/more attractive

  • being more charismatic

than someone else can all feel like a way to (partially) impose your will on that person. All these factors making up our status make people inclined to do stuff for us, often subconsciously.

In other cases it can be fully conscious and take the form of a power play.

Do we perform little acts of violence on people around us constantly? Can we even compare two people without violence? What is status?

Discussion in the comments is welcome, obviously.

This market will resolve to the side with the greater # of positions at time of close, or 50% in case of a tie. I may bet here.

We of the YES tribe outnumber the NO tribe two to one. If this trend continues our victory is guaranteed. Join us and together we will beat those fools that think questions such as these are about truth rather than about acquiring mana through violence.

@inactive1234 self resolving questions = free mana!

especially when based on # of traders and not percentage at close

no, i don’t think so. displays of competence can garner esteem from a group that is more “following this person leads to good outcomes” than “i will be hurt if i don’t follow this person”

Define violence

predicts YES

@milanw I probably couldn't define it and I prefer a more situational "I know it when I see it" approach.

This question is also trying to ask what violence is. We know more or less what makes up social status. How does your idea of violence relate to that?
