Feinstein boarded a chartered private plane Tuesday, according to sources close to the senator, marking the first time she has returned to Washington from California since becoming ill with the shingles virus in mid-February. Feinstein's spokesman Adam Russell confirmed her departure to The Chronicle. She could return to the Senate as early as Tuesday evening.
