This market is a duel between two works of art listed for Christie's "Art Impressionniste & Moderne" live auction in Paris.

Both were given the same initial estimates by Christie's: EUR 300,000 – EUR 500,000. This market resolves to the painting which the Christie's website lists with a higher sale value at the auction.

Resolution details:

  • Example from a past auction: this painting by Gentilesch has a "price realised" of USD 982,800. This is the number I will use—whatever is displayed by the auction page.

  • Edge cases:

    • If either painting is withdrawn before the auction, or I am unable to determine the sale price, it resolves N/A.

    • If one fails to sell at the auction, it resolves to the other.

    • If there's a tie (or they both fail to sell at the auction), both resolve at 50%. .

    • If any scenarios for resolution are unclear, please ask.

Le Corbusier - Coquillage

Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (1887 –1965), known as Le Corbusier was a Swiss-French architect, designer, painter, urban planner and writer, who was one of the pioneers of what is now regarded as modern architecture. (Wikipedia)

Auguste Rodin - Éternel printemps

François Auguste René Rodin (12 November 1840 – 17 November 1917) was a French sculptor generally considered the founder of modern sculpture... Rodin possessed a unique ability to model a complex, turbulent, and deeply pocketed surface in clay. He is known for such sculptures as The Thinker, Monument to Balzac, The Kiss, The Burghers of Calais, and The Gates of Hell. (Wikipedia)

@traders The Rodin sculpture did quite well, selling for EUR 693,000. However, the Le Corbusier failed to sell entirely (the bids must not have met the reserve). No price listed online, and the lot isn't included in the printout of results from this auction (standard when a lot fails to sell). Based on my description, if one fails to sell, it resolves to the other. This resolves to Rodin.

Plenty of other auction markets, both for art, and for other rare collectibles. Try markets for a Sir Peter Paul Rubens painting, and one for a fancy Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet (dashboard)
