Ukraine and Russia would probably sign a ceasefire or peace deal this year if the west wasn't involved. But the west wants to use this war to bankrupt Russia and is willing to keep funding Ukraine to keep the war going.

@ahalekelly Well, yes. Without help Ukraine would be far more likely to get crushed. But to my surprise West decided to not go for appeasement this time. Hopefully this will hold.

no, the actual reason is to stop attempting to recreate USSR in Europe.

@M I think the west has made a good start on bankrupting itself over Ukraine.

@BruceGrugett Several years of that and we will be in the terrible position: almost as bad as Russia before the war!

Though obviously, people will start protesting far sooner before that - bankrupting is not a problem, people will be angry at losing 10% of living standard.

I am not expecting Ukraine to collapse by that time and Russia will likely continue to be stupid and murderous and is even less likely to collapse.

Continues to be the best way to launder money and launder outrage (“we’re at war! That’s why inflation!”)

Barely achieving the latter but so many incentives to run these “wars” for decades to loot the public so way too early for it to end
