Resolution criteria

This market resolves to YES if, at any point before January 1, 2050, any scientist, epidemiologist, virologist, or scientific advisor who played a prominent role in the COVID-19 pandemic response, funding, or origins research (excluding Dr. Anthony Fauci) is sentenced to and serves time in a state, federal, or international prison.

To ensure clear, objective resolution, the following specific individuals are explicitly pre-approved as qualifying "pandemic scientist experts" for the purposes of this market:

  • Dr. David Morens (former Senior Advisor to the NIAID Director, who pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy in August 2026)

  • Dr. Peter Daszak (president of EcoHealth Alliance)

  • Dr. Francis Collins (former NIH Director)

  • Dr. Ralph Baric (virologist and researcher)

  • Dr. Christian Drosten (German virologist)

  • Any other virologist, epidemiologist, public health scientist, or scientific advisor who served in an official high-level governmental, academic, or institutional capacity (e.g., at the NIH, NIAID, CDC, FDA, WHO, or EcoHealth Alliance) directly relating to the research, funding, or response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Details of "going to prison":

  • The individual must be sentenced to a term of imprisonment and physically enter a prison or jail facility to serve that sentence.

  • Sentences of probation, home confinement, community service, or fines without active prison time do not satisfy this criteria.

  • Pre-trial detention does not count unless they are subsequently convicted and sentenced to time served or additional prison time.

Sources for verification:

  • Official announcements from the U.S. Department of Justice or relevant international judicial bodies.

  • Reputable, major news outlets reporting on the sentencing and incarceration of any qualifying individuals.

Background

In August 2026, Dr. David Morens—a career epidemiologist and long-time senior advisor to Dr. Anthony Fauci at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)—pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge. The charges stemmed from a scheme to evade Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and hide emails concerning federal grant funding for coronavirus research linked to the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Morens is scheduled to be sentenced on November 12, 2026, and faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Meanwhile, congressional investigations into the origins of COVID-19 and federal funding have continued to target other prominent scientific figures, including EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak and Dr. Anthony Fauci himself.
