NO

This prediction market seeks to gauge the likelihood of Ethereum being mandated to use USDC for gas fees in the United States via smart contract wallets by the end of 2023. This requirement may be implemented by the US government to regulate and stabilize the fees associated with Ethereum transactions. Participants in this market can speculate on the likelihood of this regulatory change occurring within the given timeframe.

This has never happened before AFAICT and people aren't too worried about it anyways.

(Also from the perspective of the Ethereum blockchain, it has ~no way of knowing whether users are based in the US or not, so there would be a big technical hurdle as well.)

Has this been proposed by someone, or is this a theory?

predicted YES

@BrendanFinan Pure conjecture! 🥺 With Smart Contract wallets becoming more ubiquitous I figure at some point it will be possible to pay gas in usdc, and I wouldn't put it past the fed to try to make it a requirement when possible. Or at some point could be a proposed solution in the battle for block space.
