Context (my understanding of the situation): Tumbles went all in on Biden being the nominee and lost ~1M+ mana. A lot of that mana were loans from other people. That put him deeply in red and unable to use Manifold unless he paid a lot of cash to make up for the lost mana.
Then Manifold sent him 1.4M mana to get him from negative balance. Seems like there was no explicit reason given:
