THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

There is a number of cheeky users breaking our community guidelines.

I will start setting people's mana/investment value to ZERO without warning.

Action = ban or removing mana from their account (or anything more elegant we come up with).

Fraud = creating new accounts with the purpose of funnelling mana into a main account and abusing bonuses.

See: https://manifold.markets/post/ban-log (comments)

As we allow users to redeem mana to donate to charity (and soon claim subs to Destiny) we can't allow people to freely abuse our economy.

I took action yesterday on a few more which I haven't written anywhere yet, but even with those ended at around 15-20.

whats the count salt man?

bought Ṁ50 of YES

If, hypothetically, someone were to create several new accounts and use them to commit fraud among themselves, but not transfer any mana to their main account, would that main account suffer any repercussions?

Is there a way to report potential users? I have 3: @nicksalvucci @clarkoverhiser @MiniatureEnginesandMore check https://manifold.markets/MiniatureEnginesandMore/will-nancy-pelosi-run-for-president and the markets that they are betting on and the people that they follow

@egroj you may flag that market as improperly resolved, by clicking the flag next to the resolution. If enough people do that, a warning will show on the creator's markets

@egroj Why are you so upset by this? We all are friends that just started today and are trying to figure this out. Why do you have a problem with a market that was closed by someone who is not familiar with the way the platform works. You probably only lost a few mana so what’s the big deal?

@nicksalvucci not upset at all if that is the case, just explain the situation on the market. Welcome to manifold markets!

@egroj You clearly are upset, you’ve made comments about this on multiple markets and are now trying to take some sort of action against us.

@nicksalvucci We take reputation seriously on here, because it's a decentralized platform and it doesn't work if we're not able to trust market creators to follow through. Mistakes do happen from time to time, and it's not a big deal as long as you communicate clearly about what happened and pay back any traders who may have unfairly lost mana due to the mistake.

@egroj I'm confused about what you think @clarkoverhiser and @MiniatureEnginesandMore did wrong? I don't see any comments by them on that market.

@IsaacKing No one did anything wrong, I don’t understand what his problem is he literally made money on it

@IsaacKing it was just a weird resolution on the market, but they clarified that it was a mistake and that they are just starting on the platform. All good here

@IsaacKing I bought and sold from the market a few times before it was resolved, didn’t really know what I was doing and lost mana. Not sure what I did wrong here.

@egroj Good to hear buddy

@egroj Ok I have read your other comments and I understand your point of view. Sorry for the misunderstanding

Out of curiosity, which guidelines are being most abused?

predicted YES

@AndrewHartman People spam creating accounts with the sole purpose of claiming the referral bonus on their main account and then emptying out all the mana into it.

A bit hard for us right now to track to what extent it has been going on (hoping to improve our ability to detect it shortly). But we've seen some discussion about it as well as a couple of instances of it being done.

@DavidChee That seems like a lot of work for fairly minimal gains, to be honest. You could probably make just as much from a fairly simple bot.

@AndrewHartman That requires programming knowledge.

@DavidChee Out of curiosity, is there an easy way to create multiple Google accounts? I thought they each required a new verified phone number, which makes it a bit of a pain.

predicted YES

@IsaacKing From my understanding you can have several google accounts connected to one number before it asks for a new one. I'm almost certain there are services which enable mass purchasing of accounts too but haven't looked into the details.

It might not actually be that big of an issue. As I said we don't have a great way to track what extent it has been occurring besides already seeing it in action.

@IsaacKing you can have multiple per phone number (5? 10? idk how many)

If 10 accounts are being used to funnel M$ by one IRL person, is that "1 user" or "10 users"?

predicted YES

@brp That's considered 1 user (although there is a chance we wont always be able to tell if it is the same person or not, so it could inflate numbers slightly).
