There are also growing fears amongst [some](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_backsliding_in_the_United_States) that the United States is heading down this path. A dictatorship is defined by [Encyclopedia Britannica](https://www.britannica.com/topic/dictatorship) as "form of government in which one person or a small group possesses absolute power without effective constitutional limitations." ***Will the United States become a dictatorship by 2100?*** This question will resolve as **Yes** if at any point prior to January 1, 2100 the United States, two of the following six criteria are met: 1. The Constitution is suspended or abolished for more than 365 days. 2. The United States Congress or the Supreme Court is suspended or abolished for more than 365 days. 3. Term limits for the President are suspended or abolished for any length of time. 4. The President of the United States gains the ability to pass laws without the consent of Congress. 5. Freedom House's ["Freedom in the World report"](https://freedomhouse.org/countries/freedom-world/scores) or the Economist Intelligence Unit's ["Democracy Index"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Index) categorize the United States as "Not Free" or an "Authoritarian Regime" respectively. 6.
