With the second test, SpaceX used a novel hot staging technique. It seems to have mostly worked, but the booster might have been damaged.

Will they keep that or a similar plan for the third test?

Hot staging will be counted as any plan that involves lighting the second stage engines while still connected to the first stage. The flight need not reach hot staging to count; first stage ignition with the intent to launch and hot stage will be sufficient.

I'm gonna assume that means "touching"? It's unclear if Starship actually has clamps holding the second stage connected or not, it might actually just use its weight.

@Mqrius Yes. Touching, in physical contact, positive contact pressure. AFAIK there are no clamps, release mechanisms, or pusher / separating mechanisms. It the engines light before the stages are separated, that's hot staging. I doubt there's any risk of an in between thing here.
