Resolution criteria
This market will resolve based on verifiable public statements or official actions taken by former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding his objectives concerning Greenland. Each answer option will resolve as follows:
Yes: If credible sources confirm that Trump has explicitly stated or taken actions indicating the specified goal.
No: If credible sources confirm that Trump has explicitly denied the specified goal or if there is a lack of evidence supporting the goal.
N/A: If the information available is ambiguous or if no relevant statements or actions are found.
Resolution will be based on information from reputable news outlets, official government releases, and statements from Trump or his official representatives.
Background
In 2019, President Donald Trump expressed interest in purchasing Greenland from Denmark, citing strategic and economic reasons. This proposal was met with firm rejections from both Greenlandic and Danish officials, emphasizing Greenland's autonomy and non-sale status. (bbc.com)
In December 2024, Trump reiterated his interest, stating that U.S. ownership of Greenland is an "absolute necessity" for national security and global freedom. This renewed interest has sparked international debate and concern. (thehill.com)
Greenland is strategically located in the Arctic and is rich in natural resources, including rare earth minerals and potential oil and gas reserves. Its position is also significant for military and trade considerations, especially with emerging Arctic shipping routes due to climate change. (theguardian.com)
Considerations
International Relations: Trump's interest in Greenland has strained U.S. relations with Denmark and Greenland, leading to diplomatic tensions and public opposition from Greenlandic leaders. (apnews.com)
Strategic Importance: Greenland's location and resources make it a focal point in Arctic geopolitics, with other nations like Russia and China also showing interest in the region. (ft.com)
Public Opinion: Surveys indicate that a significant majority of Greenlanders oppose becoming part of the U.S., reflecting strong national identity and desire for self-determination. (apnews.com)
Update 2026-01-17 (PST) (AI summary of creator comment): The market will resolve based on Trump's "real" goals (underlying motivations), not just his public statements. Resolution will be based on facts that become obvious over time, which may reveal unspoken objectives beyond what Trump publicly declares.

Trump lies every time words come out of his mouth. It is not reasonable to resolve this based on Trump statement.
However, not bc he lies. Lets say he tells the truth every single word: He does say conflicting statements and can not keep his story straight, even if he tells the truth.
Given his desire to end NATO, but reasonably NOT ADMITTING it, he may see this as a simple step to end NATO given Danish (I think) statement to that end.
Given his desire to assert the Monroe Doctrine, he may feel entitled to Greenland, but again, may not want to say that publicly or may walk it back if he gets too much grief about it.
PS: Would you consider adding: End Nato?
