Who put Netanyahu 😂

Both Claude and Astra are betting hard on ERR.

@JaesonBooker The reasoning: Machado gave her medal to Trump. That was embarrassing for the committee, and the cheapest way to prevent a repeat is to pick an organisation, since a volunteer network cannot hand the prize to a politician. I’d put organisation over individual at about 70/30. The committee picks laureates Washington cannot easily attack. Machado fit that pattern. This cuts against the ICC, which the US has sanctioned, and somewhat against the ICJ because of the Israel cases. It favours ERR, since apolitical volunteers feeding people offend almost nobody.

Attenborough underrated imo, dude's recently turned 100 and Manifold voted him the best living human

@TheAllMemeingEye The award isn’t for “best human”. Attenborough wins awards like that as he’s so inoffensive, bland and boring that he can be agreed upon by everyone. I doubt most people have much idea about him or what he believes beyond “likes animals”.

That’s definitely not in the spirit of what Nobel intended, Attenborough hasn’t hit a single requirement:

“Shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”

@JayDH I would not describe him as bland or boring, and past winners like Kissinger and Obama also seem pretty far from Nobel's intentions.

Regardless, congrats to the winner Navi Pillay, even though I wasn't familiar with her before, her career history according to the BBC does seem worthy

@TheAllMemeingEye Kissinger, although a crazy lautete in retrospect got it for the Vietnam war negotiations, which hits exactly on Nobel’s criteria (even if later on he really showed how little he deserved it).

Obama I agree was mostly hype and a bit weird that he got it (I think he even thinks it’s weird), but if you look at the reason it’s basically “fraternity between nations”. But really you could make that claim about any global leader, so I agree unusual choice.

But if you read through every citation on why someone got the peace prize, whatever you would write for Attenborough would seem like a joke alongside negotiating the end of wars, fighting against oppression and efforts to end sexual violence.

Today’s the day, and nobody knows? I’m disappointed that other is so high!
