I can't imagine why he would deserve one, but that's my reaction to a sizeable proportion of the past laureates. I guess he's a less bad choice than some.

And shouldn't Singer have to do something other than, idk, bloviate??

There is no such thing as posthumous Nobel Prize. Once you die you are disqualified. In a couple circumstances individuals didn't receive a prize for this reason when their collaborators did.
