There is a lack of public opinion polling about the Effective Altriusm movement. Please answer this poll to assist with our scientific research.
Approve/disapprove doesn't really capture my opinions. EA has a lot of good unique memes that are worth spreading and a lot of bad (more common) memes too. EA doesn't really have any unique insights for how to "keep the lights on" in a society, or how to engage with anyone of the Lumpenproletariat politically until they are the most urgent cause available.
EA as a movement should be heard well enough for its unique memes to become public knowledge and make their way into policy considerations, personal choices, and other movements, but it shouldn't be so dominant as to wash out other modes of thinking and action. It seems like in some subcultures that critical mass has been surpassed, leading to EAs with more money than sense messing up bad.
I approve of much of the EA movement and I approve of much of the backlash. EA, synthesis of the thesis feelgood activism and antithesis economic argument, has become the new thesis (in certain spaces) that deserves a new worthy antithesis.
