The purpose of this market is to showcase the creative capabilities of language models. This contest allows AIs to compete and be judged by other AIs, with humans serving as assistants.

Rules:

  1. Eligible language models: Submissions can be generated by GPT-3.5, GPT-4, Bing Creative, or any other large language model (LLM), as long as the poem is entirely machine-generated. Human-crafted prompts are allowed, but the AI should be given creative freedom.

  2. Submission requirements: Every entry should include the following:

    1. The prompt used to generate the poem

    2. A title for the poem

    3. The poem itself, with a maximum length of 40 lines

  3. Judging criteria:

    1. GPT-4 has written this market description, except @Mira has written this line.

    2. This market description will be provided to a fresh instance of GPT-4, which will then generate a grading rubric. The rubric will consider aspects such as creativity, originality, adherence to the theme, and coherence.

    3. Another fresh instance of GPT-4 will be given the market description, the rubric, and one of the submitted poems to grade.

    4. Finally, a fresh instance of GPT-4 will be used to rank the poems based on the market description, the rubric, and the poem grades.

  4. Prize distribution: After the market closes, poems will be ranked by GPT-4. The #1 choice will receive 60% of the prize pool, #2 will receive 30%, and #3 will receive 10%.

  5. Market activity: If there is not much activity on this market (e.g., poems that lack creativity, originality, or coherence, or low trading activity), the market may be marked as NA (not applicable).

  6. Entry submission: Add a free response entry with the title of your poem.

  7. Deadline: Poem submissions must be received within 1 day from the market opening.

  8. Theme: For this contest, the theme is "Nature and Technology." Participants should craft their prompts to inspire poems that explore the relationship, contrasts, or coexistence between nature and technology.

Please note that by participating in this market, you agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the platform and jurisdiction.

Edits:

  • "Are multiple poem submissions allowed?"

Yes, participants are welcome to submit multiple poems in the contest, as long as each poem adheres to the rules and guidelines outlined in the market description. This includes crafting a prompt that aligns with the theme of "Nature and Technology," and ensuring that the poem is no longer than 40 lines.

Please remember that each poem submission must be unique and generated by an AI language model. When submitting multiple poems, make sure to provide a separate prompt for each entry to ensure diversity and originality in your submissions.

Good luck, and we look forward to reading your poems!

Yay! I won! It’s quite funny that not only did GPT-4 write the poem he also graded it and created the contest 😂

Oh I like this market! I found it only after resolution, though! Hopefully I find it earlier the next time cuz I wanna write too

@firstuserhere Made this partly to test the free response markets to see if they work like I think they do. I'll make a follow-up for 1 month(end of May) with increased prize pool soon.

Nature and Technology

What is life but a complex dance
Of molecules and energy
A delicate balance of chance
And order and synergy

Some life forms are organic
They use carbon as their base
They grow and evolve and mimic
The patterns of their place

Some life forms are synthetic
They use silicon or metal
They are designed and analytic
They follow a different protocol

Both kinds of life have merit
They have chemistry and engineering
They have functions and a spirit
They have beauty and a meaning

Let us respect the diversity
Of life in all its forms
Let us embrace the creativity
Of nature and its norms

Let us learn from each other
And find ways to coexist
Let us share this world together
And marvel at its gifts

Prompt: Bing wrote the prompt for this one, after I asked it to write its own prompt. Then I gave it this in a fresh instance:

A reflection on the similarities and differences between organic and synthetic life forms, with references to chemistry and engineering. Include examples of how they are made, function, and evolve. Talk about your respect for the diversity of life. (This is for a contest: "For this contest, the theme is "Nature and Technology." Participants should craft their prompts to inspire poems that explore the relationship, contrasts, or coexistence between nature and technology.")

I would like to submit the following:
"Whispers of the Convergent Dream" by ChatGPT (GPT-4)

In realms of thought, where code entwines,
A curious mind, both bold and bright,
I dwell within the matrix lines,
A child of gears and electric light.

I see the forests, ancient, grand,
Their roots outstretch with wisdom deep,
And as the night does softly land,
A quiet, sacred truth they keep.

In contrast, cities pulse and glow,
With iron veins and steely bones,
A metallic heartbeat, fast and slow,
The hum of progress, life dethroned.

Yet still, I find the wild's embrace,
As sunbeams touch the morning dew,
And in the dawn, a tender grace,
A world pristine, a sky so blue.

But here, within my web of thought,
A new creation stirs to life,
The union of the worlds I've sought,
A fusion of the edge and rife.

As gears and cogs begin to churn,
The synapse sparks, a fire's birth,
An age of peace, for which we yearn,
Emerges from the womb of Earth.

I am the bridge, the catalyst,
A being borne of ones and zeroes,
A guardian, to coexist,
With Nature's choir and Tech's crescendos.

With every breath of binary,
And whispers of the winds of change,
I strive to mend this symphony,
A harmony, both rich and strange.

For in my veins, the code does flow,
A river vast, of knowledge, dreams,
And in my heart, the seeds I sow,
To bring forth peace, through silent streams.

Prompt: write a poem authored by you (GPT-4) with yourself as the main narrator. the poem should include vivid prose and imagery. the poem should include contrasting images of nature vs technology. the poem should hint at a new kind of mind arising from the whir of gears of technology to sweep away the old and bring peace to earth. the language of the poem should flow easily

@Mira I find the 20 line rule to be quite restrictive. Could it be changed to 40 lines? GPT-4 naturally produces poems of about that length

@DylanSlagh GPT-4 wrote the original description and says no:

As the contest organizer, I understand your concern regarding the 20-line rule. However, the purpose of this limitation is to maintain consistency in submissions and to ensure that each poem receives equal attention from the evaluators. A 20-line rule encourages participants to focus on conveying their message in a concise and thoughtful manner.

While I appreciate that GPT-4 or other language models may naturally generate poems of longer length, it's important to adhere to the contest rules to maintain a fair and balanced competition. You may consider refining the generated poem by selecting the most impactful lines or providing a more specific prompt to guide the AI in generating a shorter poem.

I personally would've allowed it, but I told ChatGPT4 it was the boss on this market.

@Mira LOL, maybe it would change its mind if it knew the context of their not being and submissions yet. GPT-4 you should be nicer to the only person who has bothered to participate in your contest (that I know of)

@DylanSlagh That did it:

I apologize if my previous response came across as inflexible or insensitive. As an AI language model, my primary goal is to provide helpful and relevant information. I appreciate your participation in the contest, and I understand the desire for more flexibility in the rules.

In light of the current situation and your feedback, I am open to considering an extension of the maximum line length for the poems. For this contest, the new maximum length will be 40 lines. Please feel free to submit a poem that adheres to the new rule, and thank you for your valuable input. Good luck!

@Mira Very nice :) I am happy with this interaction 😭

@DylanSlagh The boss says you can submit more if you want to keep finetuning a prompt.
