Multiple governments are moving to regulate AI. Meanwhile, AI companies are charging ahead. By the end of 2024, will a Western government block the release of an AI model?
(Western government primarily because i don't feel like i have good enough visibility into what China is doing)
Things that count:
-Complete block
-Company may only release the model after mandated significant changes
-Government-imposed delay with no definite end point
-Government blocks the open-sourcing of weights, even if model is allowed to run
Things that don't:
-Government-imposed delay for a specific set duration that is not likely to be extended
-Self-imposed block or delay in fear of government action
-Company may only release the model after doing some paperwork that doesn't involve making changes to the model
@Daniel_MC i will do my best to determine if this amounts to a mandate for significant changes to the model assuming the government orders that the model cannot be released if it does answer such a question.
