The Kids Online Safety Act, introduced into the Senate last session, contained provisions that would limit the ability of US companies to offer services connected to the Internet that do not analyze user behavior (to attempt to determine their age) or filter the content that a user can view (based on their age). This would have indirectly prevented companies from offering services with end to end encryption or encrypted storage.
So the question is: Will new legislation be signed into US law this year that has the effect of restricting end to end encryption, encrypted storage, or similar techniques by which services can avoid spying on their users?
(This will resolve based on my best judgement of the legislation - and thus I will not bet.)
Some potential laws proposed this year - note that this is not an exhaustive list, there may be supreme court decisions that have impact also, and the laws could be amended to protect end to end encryption before being passed.
