Will Andy Burnham lose a by-election in 2026?

Resolved
NO

Burnham wants to be Labour leader but would need to become an MP first. This would likely mean a friendly MP voluntarily standing down and triggering a by-election, which Burnham would run for. (First obstacle is getting approval to run, which Starmer has blocked once already.)

But even if all this goes to plan, he might not win the election.

This market resolved YES if a by-election happens and Burnham stands as a Labour candidate, but then loses, with a party other than Labour gaining the previously Labour seat. Otherwise resolves NO.

I may bet in this market. No AI clarifications will be added.

Resolving NO because he won in Makerfield. I don't think it's possible to "lose a by election" if you're a sitting MP so it seems to me I should let everybody get their mana back rather than waiting until the end of the year. Let me know if anybody disagrees

"I can confirm that I will be requesting the permission of the NEC to stand in the Makerfield by-election."
