Will Asahifuji (Ochirsaikhan/Ochiru) go undefeated through the end of 2026?

NO

He's apparently doing Mae-zumo in November 2025.

For Aonishiki recently, he started at Jk and then lost a total of 4 matches over 6 basho on his way to Juryo, and somehow passed through Juryo in just 2 more tournaments to make Makuuchi after 8 basho.

Can Asahifuji (formerly Ochirsaikhan) make it through 6 consecutive basho without a loss on his way up the ranks?

Resolves No as soon as he loses a match. Including if he loses in Mae-Zumo.

If he loses in a play-off for any division, that counts as a loss. He would no longer be undefeated for the purpose of this market.

If he sits out a tournament that also counts as a loss. Basically he has to win every possible match.

dreadful

@No_uh heartbreaking

@No_uh devastating

lasted a while!

Nabatame next. Could lose.

@Eliza Could win.

@QBreezy Didn't though, in the end.

@QBreezy Long live the dream.

Still going, as expected. 3-0 at Ms11e, with another match scheduled for tonight. Counting maezumo, he's now 27-0 for his career.

Nobody's ever gone undefeated through the bottom 4 divisions, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't.

@QBreezy will he need to play Juryo later in this tournament? Any chance he does 8 matches or more than 7?

@Eliza I don't think he has to worry about either of those things.

@QBreezy I wasn't giving him due credit for his playoff wins. He actually made it to 31 wins straight in the end. Now 33-1 for his career. Also, good chance to win this tournament still!

@QBreezy 3 more wins in the 3rd division playoff, including revenge against Nabatame! Also, a 4th division championship for Tenshoyama, who started at the same time as Asahifuji and has only lost 3 career matches...2 of them to Asahifuji.

Alright, as it was foretold, Asahifuji will face debutant Omori (in Makushita) on Day 11. They're both undefeated in their entire career. Only one can remain.

@Eliza Oh, also, if Asahifuji wins, there will only be one 6-0 in Makushita so he might end up facing that guy as well. ????? Weird situation.

@Eliza (He won handily.)

5-0, they've already had him do one Makushita match, who knows what's next....

1-0 start for May! He's near the top of the 4th division. If he manages to go undefeated again he would probably end up in the top ~10 ranks of the 3rd division in July, where another 7-0 would guarantee promotion to Juryo in September.

Reminder for everyone just in case you're wondering: a playoff loss will count as a loss for the purposes of this market.

It is quite likely that there would be a playoff if he wins today.

@Eliza he got the 7-0 but should have a final day playoff

@Tripping good rivalry and it will be their third match.

He's 5-0 so far this round but he has to bump up and face a Sandanme 5-0 guy for Day 11.

@Eliza passed the test
