Aug 17, 8:16pm: Wil Hu Chuhua be the next Premier of the People's Republic of China? → Will Hu Chunhua be the next Premier of the People's Republic of China?

Resolves YES if Hu Chunhua is announced as the new Chinese Premier (#2 behind Xi Jinping) at the end of this year. Resolves NO if not.

Hu is only 59 and would be the first the generation of Chinese leaders to emerge in Xi's inner circle. Recent state media reporting following the CCP leadership retreat has conspicuously raised Hu's profile, but it is hard to read to much into anything communicated by the party short of formal and final pronouncements.

Hu Chunhua confirmed out.

China's Communist Party names 7-member Standing Committee, its inner circle of power, dominated by Xi allies. On Sunday, following the first meeting of the party’s new Central Committee, six men in addition to Xi were selected to be members of the Politburo Standing Committee, China’s top ruling body:

  • Li Qiang (Male)

  • Zhao Leji (Male)

  • Wang Huning (Male)

  • Cai Qi (Male)

  • Ding Xuexiang (Male)

  • Li Xi (Male)

They now compose the Politburo Standing Committee, China’s most powerful decision-making body, and will sit atop of the party to drive the world’s second-largest economy over the coming half decade. BBC Live Stream.
