The extreme-right party AfD recently won municipial elections in Sonneberg and Raguhn-Jeßnitz, but lost the runoff election in Nordhausen although they were ahead in the polls. Now Bitterfeld-Wolfen is the next city of interest.
In the election for the new mayor of Bitterfeld-Wolfen, AfD candidate Henning Dornack received the most votes in the first round of voting. As the city administration announced on Sunday evening, Dornack received 33.76 percent of the votes. Incumbent Armin Schenk (CDU) got 29.14 percent, according to the statement. Both candidates will have to face a runoff election on Oct. 8. Voter turnout was 49.74 percent. Dornack could become the first AfD politician to be elected lord mayor. (dpa, translated with Deepl)
Resolves YES if Dornak wins the runoff election.
Resolves NO if anybody else (e.g. Schenk) wins the runoff election.
Close date might be adapted if the election gets shifted or something.

@SarkanyVar Looks good enough for me to resolve. Is there any reason to wait for the Tuesday meeting?
@marketwise I am not entirely privy to the municipal rules in the city, but I believe it might simply be a procedural thing to name the winner and such. A glance from X / Twitter shows German media calling it a victory for Schenk, including the MDR:
And one notes Dornack had to admit defeat:
Deepl translation from the article:
With such a mood, one might expect great support from within his own party. But Schenk is almost alone here. The CDU in the city council is divided, the city association hopelessly at odds. Shortly before the first ballot, two local mayors left the party.
That made me adjust upwards.
Looking at the runners-up, who got about ~38% of the votes, my feeling would be most of the Krillwitz votes will go to Schenk, and most of the Kuhnt votes to Dornak. That would give Schenk a small edge.
