One type of "error" Ben introduces is the substitution of one coded "word" (e.g. ASLAL) for another, where both decoded forms would be coherent but only one would be correct

Words are generally truncated to the first five characters. If the word is <5 characters long, then underscores are used as padding.

At least one of the following elements is just noise or an intentional misdirect, rather that being fruitfully on a solve path: The prominence of "A"; arrows indicating a unidirectional relationship; Gujarati placenames; French placenames

@shankypanky Is this supposed to be unranked?

@NivlacM I got got by this again, when I thought the cities were all on the French Riviera for a day or two. The sea continues to be a Ben miniboss

@phenomist this is a NO

why are they back

@jatloe lol you missed some developments

@bens oh no now im going to need to resolve everything while barely having an idea of what happened

@jatloe If you want help with some resolutions:

I think everything above 90% and everything below 10% safely resolves YES and NO respectively, with the exception of "Korean needs to be sounded out to solve the puzzle".

Now the harder edge cases.

  • Korean needs to be translated/sounded out: Well, the answer's Hangul is Gallineus's full name in Korean. But this is already a transliteration so is basically sounding out the Latin into Korean. You don't need to know the Korean language beyond how the Hangul syllables are pronounced.

  • Ignore coastal/maritime/island themes: Not relevant besides 1930 TdF's route being relatively coastal. So likely resolves YES

  • You should apply effort to paths which reduce to a letter/word: The paths ended up reducing to a Hangul character. Is this a letter/word? Probably not, it's a syllable. The letter market suggests N/A'ing it.

  • Pedigree, human, or animal: This depends on the interpretation of this answer. Gallineus was a human. Nothing else about the solution really involves whatever this means.

  • Transpositions: I really don't think this is true. You could squint at the error correction process as changing points around but that is a huge stretch

@phenomist tysm!! i will check these myself too but this is very helpful

@phenomist

Ignore coastal/maritime/island themes: since the intention seemed to be about puzzle 1, I resolved it YES

Reduce to letter/word: It feels that a Hangeul character is fundamentally not a letter, considering the very strong dependence of puzzles on English letters in general, so I resolved both NO

Pedigree, human, or animal: Yeah this is only used in literally the final answer, so I resolved it NO

Transpositions: This feels like an obvious NO

Korean needs to be translated/sounded out: I am a bit reluctant to say it is specifically sounding out instead of translated, especially because the Korean Wikipedia article has the exact same transliteration: https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/%EA%B0%88%EB%A6%AC%EC%97%90%EB%88%84%EC%8A%A4

Any thoughts on this?

If any of these seem particularly wrong to anyone, please tell me!

@jatloe I would argue pretty strongly that it's a transliteration, not a translation

@archvenison @marvingardens

ok yeah I think I agree

@phenomist FIWI, I had bet yes to "pedigree, human, or animal" just before resolution because Gallineus was a human. I made enough that I don't really care about this one market, but that sounded like a yes to me? Feel free to just say I'm being greedy.

@DannyqnOht it's really badly phrased, but I would argue the answer isn't part of the "correct approach"

Had a few minutes to try and validate prior art. To anyone else doing the same, do you think the sequence could be Paris --> Malo-les-Bains rather than Caen --> Paris?

Got a handle on the drawing method and checked the first three days (against deliberate sabotage, mainly) and their error-corrections, which seem totally sound. Will not have time to continue anytime soon.

@marvingardens I called it re: starting cities. ("called it" presumably after eliza had already completed the solve)

@Eliza why are all your comments periods??...

I was offline and now I have no idea what has happened

does this mean you have the answer?

@epic No I just moved all the comment section to another place because this one was getting too busy.

@Eliza where exactly?

@epic It's not publicly available at this time.

@Eliza wait can I view the edit history bc I'm a mod but can no one else see the edit history?!

@bens Everyone can see it lol.

@Eliza On the internet, everything is forever. A good lesson for anyone who thinks it's a good idea to share things like their name, address, photo, and credit card number.

@Eliza the AI is gonna train on our personalities based on our Manifold comment history, it's so over

@Eliza I cant see it lol

@epic you just need to click on "edited"
