Resolves YES if a department of the US federal government with the exact name "Department of Government Efficiency" (up to capitalization differences) and a set of responsibilities that roughly matches this name is created by November 12, 2025 at 11:59PM Eastern Time (a year after this market was created). Resolves NO otherwise.
Confused why this market hasn't already resolved YES?
A "department" is not something that only congress can create and I don't see that specified in the market description. "Department" is a broad term within the government and currently DOGE does indeed "exist". Not sure what the market creator is waiting for. Currently the "Department of Government Efficiency" does indeed exist and is a SUBSIDIARY of the USDS (US DOGE Service). Both are things.
@benshindel it was specified before the creator removed it. But yes, at this point, I’m not sure what we’re waiting for.
@benshindel The original description mentioned that creating a department requires an act of congress, strongly implying that was the expectation.
I'd still argue this has not met the criteria as Doge is actually the "U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization" within the now renamed USDS as per the EO.
@benshindel also do you have a cite on the subsidiary claim? I can't find it in the executive order.
@Fay42 @RichSchumacher from wiki:
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE),[note 1] officially the U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization, is an initiative of the second Trump administration led by Elon Musk.[3] Despite its name, DOGE is not a Cabinet-level department but rather a temporary contracted organization under the United States DOGE Service (formerly the United States Digital Service).[4][5] Its purpose is to carry out Trump's agenda of federal spending cuts and deregulation, and, according to the order that established it, to "modernize federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity".[3][6][5] DOGE is scheduled to end on July 4, 2026.[7]
I guess it's up to the creator whether the unofficial name still counts, but the existence of the USDS is irrelevant as DOGE is a subsidiary of that.
This Executive Order establishes the Department of Government Efficiency to implement the President’s DOGE Agenda, by modernizing Federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.
Isn't this enough?
@VonGadke description notes that creating a department of government requires an act of congress, which this executive order is not. Also notes that the name of the department matters up to capitalization. The executive order specifies USDS (United States DOGE Service, having been grandfathered in, apparently, from the United States Digital Service).
@polymathematic I'm actually thinking of this potentially resolving YES since I noticed that https://www.doge.gov/ states "An official website of the United States government" at the top. But I'll get rid of the last sentence from the description and leave this up to the mods.
@duck_master well, then I guess I’d want to understand (1) why you’re changing the description, (2) what you originally intended by “part of the federal government”, and (3) why this isn’t already a YES based on what you’re saying?
@duck_master Agreed, clearly it's not a department of the federal government, just an EO created organization
Edit: As per current resolution criteria.
p.s. What did you change the resolution criteria from?
