New MVP voting instituted last year has all assigned 50 voters rank their MVP choices 1-5. 1st place gets 10 points, 2nd gets 5, 3rd gets 3, 2nd gets 2, 1 gets 1.

Total points (and spots of the votes) are publicly revealed.

Last year seemed fairly straight forward for MVP votes of past, pick the best QB on the best (or one of the best) teams.

Last Year QB Point Getters:

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City - (48-2-0-0-0) = 490 points

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia - (1-26-11-10-0) = 193

Josh Allen, Buffalo - (1-11-19-12-5) = 151

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati - (0-10-18-9-6) = 128

(All other QBs received total points 3 or less each)

Last Year Non-QBs Points Received:

Justin Jefferson, Minnesota - (0-1-1-15-17) = 55 Points

Nick Bosa, San Francisco - (0-0-1-3-11) = 20

Micah Parsons, Dallas - (0-0-0-0-2) = 2

A.J. Brown, Philadelphia - (0-0-0-0-1) = 1

Derrick Henry, Tennessee - (0-0-0-0-1) = 1
Tyreek Hill, Miami - (0-0-0-0-1) = 1

Denny Kellington, Buffalo - (0-0-0-0-1) = 1*

Total Non-QB Points: 80 (81)

Last year, this would have resolved as "YES" for Mahomes, Hurts, Allen and Burrow as they received more votes than 80, and "NO" for all other QBs.

This year (compared to last year, where that outcome could probably have been easily predicted) is interesting in many ways. The MVP is at the moment more relatively wide open for QBs (QBs all the way down to Stafford could been seen as justified in getting top 3 votes, depending on the voter, feel free to add any QB if you think there are other possible ones, non-QBs will be N/A'd). With Christian McCaffery, and Tyreek Hill, however, non-QBs may have a shot at scoring more points (or even winning MVP) than normal. Purdy and McCaffery, and Tua and Hill may have a weird vote splitting issue.

So what will be the result of this volatile MVP season as it comes to the close? Will more QBs pass the threshold for what is effectively now just the "best QB on the best team award"? Will non-QBs be able to accumulate enough points to pass more QBs? Could McCaffery actually make these answers easy?

Will resolve after points are published. Ties resolve as "NO".

*Special Circumstance of a non-player (Hamlin situation), my intuition would be to ignore the point if something equivalent happened and it mattered. Sound off in the comments
