Just as Britain's combination of political stability, abundant coal, and innovative spirit made it the crucible for the Industrial Revolution, the AI revolution is likely to kick off in a region with a perfect storm of tech-savvy talent, heavy investment in R&D, supportive regulations, and data accessibility.

Which country will be the first to experience transformative economic growth from AI?

Resolution criteria:

This question resolves according to the first sovereign state or supernational entity that experiences more than 30% annualized growth in real GDP (PPP) over at least one quarter, which is clearly linked to the development or deployment of AI systems in that location, in the opinion of the author. Any reliable source can be used for resolution, including:

  • The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA)

  • The World Bank

  • Eurostat

  • National Bureau of Statistics of China

  • Cabinet Office, Government of Japan

Note that a sub-unit within a nation (such as the Bay Area) may grow much faster than the entire nation in which it resides, but this question will only resolve according to the first sovereign country or supernational entity that experiences transformative growth over at least one quarter. The sovereign state must be part of the United Nations.
