Resolution criteria

This market resolves to YES if, on or before December 31, 2026, the United States federal government enacts a suspension of the federal excise tax on gasoline (currently 18.4 cents per gallon) and/or diesel fuel (currently 24.4 cents per gallon) such that the tax rate is reduced to 1 cent or less for a specified period.

To qualify for a YES resolution:

  • The suspension must be signed into law (or enacted via a congressional veto override) on or before December 31, 2026.

  • The suspension must apply to the federal level; state-level gas tax suspensions or holidays do not count.

  • The tax rate must be reduced to $0.01 or less; a partial reduction of the tax rate does not satisfy the criteria for "suspended."

If no such federal legislation is enacted into law by 11:59 PM ET on December 31, 2026, the market resolves to NO.

The primary source of truth for resolution will be official legislative records from Congress.gov or the Federal Register, verified by reports from major national news outlets (e.g., Reuters, AP News, Bloomberg).
