Things that would qualify:

  • The upkeep is removed entirely, and the game proceeded from untap to draw.

  • The beginning phase is condensed into one single step, with everything happening at the beginning.

  • The upkeep is moved to occur after the draw step.

Things that would not qualify:

  • The upkeep is renamed to a different name, but keeps all the same functionality.

This only applies to the comprehensive rules for paper Magic. If the comprehensive rules are removed, it refers to whatever defines how tabletop tournaments work. If Wizards stops supporting paper tournament play entirely, it refers to how it works on MTGO. If MTGO is no longer supported, it refers to whatever the largest format on Arena is.

This would probably cause some weird unintended interactions. Like, Obeka, Splitter of Seconds would make sagas really silly since sagas lore-up in main phase 1.

Braid of Fire would get really stupid too if you had that mana in the main phase.

has this seriously been discussed?

@strutheo There is haa certainly been no official word from WotC that this may happen. But there was also no official word regarding mana burn until it was removed so I am not sure there would be.

@IsaacKing oh lol
