Resolution criteria

This market resolves YES if María Corina Machado becomes President of Venezuela at any point in the future. The market will remain open until Machado becomes president of Venezuela or dies. The market will resolve to YES whenever there is consensus among reputable sources that Machado has become the facto and de jure president of Venezuela.

Considerations (PLEASE READ)

The market WILL NOT resolve to YES if Machado is recognized as de jure president but does not have de facto control over the Venezuelan government. In other words, a situation akin to Guaido's de jure presidency WOULD NOT RESOLVE TO YES.

The market will NOT resolve to YES if Machado never holds the official position of president of Venezuela, even if she is regarded as the de facto leader of the country. For instance, if someone else (e.g. Edmundo Gonzalez) holds the presidency but Machado is highly influential in the government, the market would not resolve to YES.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday said that he did not see Venezuela's opposition leader Maria Corina Machado as a potential replacement for Nicolas Maduro after he was removed from power overnight.

"I think it would be very tough for her to be the leader. She doesn't have the support within - or the respect within - the country," Trump said, adding that he thought she was a "very nice woman" when addressing the potential for her to take power.
