my path: Adelaide->Melbourne->Fiji->San Francisco
I was initially told it was still in Fiji, and would likely be on the next flight. Airline = Fiji airways
6ish hours later they called to give me a reference number
18 hours later they called to say it is not in San Francisco, so I started to replace stuff
It is now 41 hours since I discovered it missing, and there has been no call to tell me the bag is located or arrived in SF, though they said they would let me know if it arrived and they would post it.
Resolves YES if I hear that my baggage still exists before November 9th - that's the day I'll be filing an insurance claim.

I should have had a market for this too, but I figured I'll post an update for anyone who might lose a bag in future! Pro tip: don't accept the first offer
I claimed expenses of 993USD + 168AUD, asked for $1686AUD settlement
2 weeks ago, they offered me $508 USD and I declined, I told my insurer that I will accept it if they cover the difference, or they can contact Fiji to increase the offer
Today Fiji offered me $993.52 USD or $1,571.99 AUD which I have accepted as AUD! (the exchange rate is worse now, accepting the USD would only be $1,460
Assuming they don't take months to pay me, this is finally concluded! 🥳
They also spelt my name wrong (Tom instead of Tod) on every piece of correspondence even though I corrected them every time. Hopefully that doesn't interfere with my payment
@shankypanky Yes! Happy to have my stuff!
Weird details
The main lock on the bag is reset/broken so it doesn’t lock anymore
My full name is visible on the airport tags, as well as all the tracking info
Nothing appears missing
@Gen tbh it's a shame there's no way of telling the potentially interesting journey it's been on all this time 😅
and tbh, personally, if it weren't for the paperwork and unnecessary hoops, sometimes I'd rather have a payout than my stuff
in 3 hours it will have passed the timeline where I can start sending them bills for things - I think they’ll payout $1500USD in “reasonable bills” and then a further $750AUD from my insurer if I surpass that
Will it motivate them to find my bag if I start by lodging a $300usd claim? (My first target receipt)
@JustifieduseofFallibilism Hmm ok, I plan to resolve November 9th San Francisco time, which is roughly a day after I arrive back in Australia
@Gen actually, I checked again they got it back after 7 months, and i think that's actually pretty common for lost luggage. So maybe wait a little with the resolution.
7 months 💀💀💀
I don’t really want to extend resolution as I’ve already said when it will close/resolve, but that would be interesting to get it back so late..
If I don’t get it before I go back home, it’s less useful to me anyway as I’ll have already replaced some of the stuff and wasted half of my trip in shops
@Gen You could make a second market on Nov 10th, if you didn't get it back, for the next 6 months or so. Just for fun.
@Joshua If this could somehow reach the Fiji airways staff and motivate them to manipulate the market, that’d be great. I’ll keep incentivising and buying NO..
