This market resolves yes if, at any point before January 1, 2050, a female holds the position of head of state in Japan. It resolves no if no woman has held this position by that date. It resolves N/A if Japen ceases to exist.

Japan has two distinct leadership roles: the Emperor (head of state) and the Prime Minister (head of government). This market concerns the head of state, currently the Emperor.

  • A female regent acting on behalf of a male Emperor would not count.

  • If Japan's constitutional structure changes such that a different position becomes head of state, resolution will follow the functional equivalent.
