Resolution criteria
This market resolves to YES if, at any point before January 1, 2030 (12:00 AM UTC), Russian military forces launch a physical invasion of the sovereign land territory of the United Kingdom (Great Britain and Northern Ireland). Otherwise, this market resolves to NO.
For the purposes of this market, an "invasion" is defined as:
The entry of Russian armed forces (regular land, sea, or air combat troops) onto UK land territory with hostile intent, for combat, or for the purpose of military occupation.
The event must be officially recognized or reported as an invasion, armed incursion, or hostile military landing on UK soil by the UK Government, the United Nations, or at least three major international news organizations (e.g., Reuters, BBC, Associated Press, Bloomberg).
Exclusions:
Airspace violations, military aircraft incursions into the UK Flight Information Region, or naval transits/provocations in UK territorial waters do not count unless they involve the landing or deployment of combat troops on land.
Cyberattacks, infrastructure sabotage (such as cutting undersea cables), espionage, or covert political interference do not qualify as a military invasion unless accompanied by a physical military landing on UK soil.
Military operations against British Overseas Territories (e.g., Gibraltar, Falkland Islands) or Crown Dependencies do not count; the landing must occur on the land territory of Great Britain or Northern Ireland.
Background
Tensions between the United Kingdom and the Russian Federation have remained elevated, particularly following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine and the UK's subsequent military and financial assistance to Kyiv.
The United Kingdom is a founding member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, an armed attack against the UK would be considered an attack against all NATO members, triggering a collective military response. Geographically, Britain is an island nation separated from continental Europe, meaning any conventional military invasion would require a massive amphibious or airborne operation across highly contested seas and airspace defended by the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, and NATO allies. Consequently, military analysts widely view a direct physical invasion of the British mainland by Russian forces as an extreme tail-risk event.
