Resolution criteria

This market will resolve to YES if Google LLC, its parent company Alphabet Inc., or any direct corporate successor that holds the primary Google business assets officially goes defunct before January 1, 2050 (12:00 AM UTC).

"Defunct" is defined as:

  1. The company officially files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy (liquidation), undergoes complete winding-up/liquidation, or is legally dissolved.

  2. The company ceases all active business operations, with no successor entity continuing to run the core Google services (such as Search) under a direct corporate successor.

This market will resolve to NO if:

  • Google LLC or Alphabet Inc. undergoes a corporate restructuring, merger, acquisition, or name rebranding (similar to Facebook’s transition to Meta), provided the business and its core operations continue to exist.

  • The company files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy (reorganization) but continues active business operations.

  • The company remains active and operating as of January 1, 2050.

Background

Founded in 1998, Google LLC restructured in 2015 to make Alphabet Inc. its parent holding company. As one of the world's most valuable corporate entities, Google maintains a dominant share in search, digital advertising, cloud infrastructure, and consumer software. However, a multi-decade horizon introduces profound variables: accelerating antitrust actions, potential government-mandated breakups, and structural displacement by generative artificial intelligence. This market tracks whether these existential pressures, or other black swan events, will lead to the complete dissolution or liquidation of the corporate entity before 2050.
