Resolution Criteria
This market resolves to the date when the LAX Automated People Mover officially opens for public use.
Background
The LAX Automated People Mover is a 2.25-mile elevated train system designed to connect the airport terminals, parking facilities, and a new Metro transit station. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion around LAX and is expected to transport approximately 30 million passengers annually.
The project has faced several delays and budget increases since its inception. The current estimated cost exceeds $3.3 billion. According to recent announcements from Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the system is scheduled to open in January 2026.
In July 2024, the LAWA Board of Airport Commissioners approved an additional $400 million for the project, bringing the total budget to approximately $3.3 billion, nearly double the original estimate.

Delayed again to mid-2026. I'm no longer bullish, seems like the contractor has the upper hand and benefits by pushing the opening date closer to the Olympics.
They [the people mover contractor] also are aware of the political implications of the job not being completed and are in no hurry to settle any time soon. There's also no clause in their contract defining what is "work", so technically they are continuing with their "work" on the people mover, but its one guy with a shovel.
