Resolution Criteria
The 2026 Los Angeles City Controller election will be held on June 2, 2026, with potential runoff elections on November 3, 2026. The market resolves to whichever candidate receives the most votes in the primary election. If no candidate secures over 50% of the vote, the top two advance to the November runoff, and the market resolves based on the runoff winner. Results can be verified at the Los Angeles City Clerk Elections page.
If, for whatever reason, the election does not occur, this resolves NA.
Background
Kenneth Mejia is the City Controller of Los Angeles since 2022. He became the first Asian American elected to a citywide office and the first Filipino elected official in Los Angeles, and is the youngest and first person of color to hold the position of City Controller in over a century. Mejia won the 2022 general election in a landslide with 62% of the vote.
In September 2025, Isadore Hall announced a run for Los Angeles City Controller, challenging incumbent Kenneth Mejia, arguing that Mejia's office was poorly managed and lacks good communication with city department heads and other local leaders. Hall, 52, has spent roughly 15 years in elected office, beginning with the Compton school board, and his career ascended through incrementally higher offices with support of pastors, labor and community groups who have long powered the Democratic political machine in South L.A.
Considerations
Mejia's 2022 victory coincided with a moment where faith in L.A. City Hall was at a nadir amid numerous criminal scandals, but Mejia will now be running as the incumbent rather than an outsider. It remains unclear whether other candidates will enter the race for controller, with L.A. City Councilmember Monica Rodriguez rumored to potentially be interested in a bid for either mayor or controller.
