Does doing so temporarily, eg while the president is undergoing a medical procedure, count?

predicts YES

Does "next" include Harris? Do they have to assume the presidency be during the term in which they were elected VP, or does any time in their life count?

predicts YES

@BoltonBailey Yes and yes during the term elected.

@BTE In that case, does it include Harris' current term as vice president if she is re-elected as vice president? Suppose a Biden/Harris ticket wins, but Biden dies between election day (or the results being certified by congress) and inauguration. Does Harris assume the presidency as the "next person elected vice president" or as the current one?

predicts YES

@dph121 Interesting question! That would be interesting. What if is the person elected with Trump and he dies before inauguration oh man this is a cool edge case. I think in the case as you posed it there wouldn’t be an elected VP so the question would stay open until one is elected. Make sense?

@BTE I'm not sure how to interpret "yes" as an answer to the A-or-B question "Do they have to assume the presidency be during the term in which they were elected VP, or does any time in their life count?"

predicts YES

@BenjaminCosman During the term elected.
