Clans (or firms, or syndicates, or whatever you wanna call them) could be a better, funner, and more organized alternative to the unofficial loaning that goes on in Manifold. Here's how it would work. Each member of the clan can add as much mana as they want to the clan's trading pool. Any member can use that mana to trade in any market. A percentage of the profit (decided by the clan leader) goes to the member who made the trade, and the rest goes back to the investor. The leader may also limit what topics members may trade on. E.g., a politics clan can only trade on markets which have the politics tag. And each member's profitability would be recorded, so that the leader may kick out the low-performers.
This would be much better than the current loaning system, where, hypothetically, you may loan a reputable user a thousand mana for three months only for them to be banned from the site before they can pay it back. The clan system would avoid such problems. It could also open the door to new features, like competitions/leagues between clans.
Clan we do this?
I think that individual risk is still necessary to prevent good money from chasing after bad money.
However, a Manifold League of clans' average members' profits might be interesting. Kinda like a fantasy draft.
I already basically have 2 proto-clans formed right now.
