Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson's book 'Abundance' was published in March 2025. This market predicts whether it will be featured in Barack Obama's 2025 year-end book list, typically released in December. Resolution will be based on the official list published on Obama's official channels.

I am leaning towards NO, but I see the following argument for YES:
- He reminded People of his favorite summer books on his year end post on X
- There are no duplicates between his year-end and summer favorite books, indicating that he disqualified those because he already mentioned them.
My hope was for this to be in the spirit of "will Obama recommend this book to everyone", but my own resolution criteria is a bit vague. "Resolution will be based on the official list published on Obama's official channels." can be taken either way I guess. I am happy to be convinced either way. I will check the comments again over the next couple days.
@nic_kup I obviously strongly feel like the correct resolution is no.
The summer list is not the year end list. To me it’s that simple.
For what it’s worth, I’ve seen 0 traders argue for yes. Not here. Not in the discord.
I bought it down to 5%. Others came along and bought down further. Nobody counter bid it up at the opportunity to take a small risk for a big profit. The market clearly thought the terms were clear enough to resolve as no.
If you ask chat GPT it says technically says yes…but then says no and explains that the summer list is not the year end list. https://chatgpt.com/share/6949d9c5-0b48-8000-9a03-dc018b8af0ca
Chat makes a good point - I and I think traders in general interpreted the year end list as having special significance. Abundance was part of the summer list, not the year end list.
I don’t see how a reminder about a different list makes it part of this list. By that logic, if he included a link to last year’s list as a reminder, would all those books count again this year too?
To me the most logical interpretation is no. Thanks for hearing me out.
@nic_kup thanks for checking in here. as an outsider who didn't participate in the market, I'm of the mind that this should probably resolve no, BUT I appreciate the nuance of what you were trying to do here. the spirit of the question and the literal of the question didn't align, but in this case I think you're kinda backed into a corner
@mods creator is inactive; this should resolve as no per Obama's twitter feed which clearly lists it for summer only and not year end. See additional ping I made to other traders; no objections and market has been bought further down from 5% to 1.6% since my ping.
@MRME I agree that the creator is inactive, and that Obama has released his list, so I have closed the market.
However, I don't think it's clear at all that Abundance was not on the year-end list. Rather, on his year-end posts, the book is listed under a heading reminding the books he recommended over the summer. On Medium, it looks like it's under his overall 2025 favorite books. On X, it looks like maybe a different slide.
In a debatable situation like this, the creator, @nic_kup, has a right to exercise discretion. In the absence of the creator, mods will be discussing the proper ruling.
@Conflux fair enough. It seems obvious to me (a reminder about summer reads and a list released in December are very different). I also stand by my point about this being resolvable in August if that was creator's intent. I'll put this one in my wait and follow up on list.
If you need more argument from me on the no side, just say the word - otherwise I'll shut up for now.
@MRME I disagree about the August point — to me, the argument for YES is not that Obama put it on his summer reading list. It's that Obama embedded a reminder of his summer reading list inside his yearly reading list.
I posted about this in the mod-help channel of Discord, so we'll see what other people think. It does seem like traders bet this down really low, so that's some modest evidence toward your view being correct (though it's also circular reasoning to resolve a market based on how people bet).
@Conflux yeah uh if it ain't on the year-end list it ain't on the year-end list even if he loved it imo
Actually this is worth a ping to @traders . Since the creator appears to be inactive, I plan to ping the mods early next week for a resolution.
If I were in the yes camp, I would feel like I got screwed since Abundance made the summer list but not the year end list.
So in the interest of transparency I wanted to give you a chance to state your case before I try and cram a mod resolution ping down your throat.
I don’t think you have a good case - the terms are clear and if the summer list counted, you should have bought this up to 99% and closed in August. But in your shoes I’d still want the chance to think about it.
