It seems pretty clear that he's at least participating: https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/general/athletics/jakob-ingebrigtsen-half-marathon-copenhagen-b2612795.html
@NicoDelon I don’t know, seems like he got pretty far ahead of pace. 27:27 for 10k is like a minute under 60m pace for the half
@dominic Exactly. And then he stopped abruptly. He never intended to run that pace for 13.1 miles. He was aiming for the 10k.
@NicoDelon Yeah, I guess I’m saying more that it seems like he had the fitness to run sub 60 if he had wanted
@dominic No doubt. But we’re talking about this race not another one. The question has never been whether he’s capable of running sub 60. And I very much doubt his pace for half of the race is a good indication of his pace on the entire race ‘if he had wanted’. I suspect he would have burned himself out given this was happening on the heels of a long season.
@NicoDelon I think part of it is whether he was capable, and part was whether he would do it in this race. You’re right, I didn’t weight highly enough the chance that he wouldn’t be going for his fastest possible half marathon here.
@dominic I look forward to what he’ll do next. He’s got a pretty impressive range! I don’t see him do well in the marathon yet though.
@miller Interesting. Apparently he has a 10k PB of 27:54 from 2019. I guess he could run under 60 but this is happening two days after the diamond league. Surely he hasn’t been really training for this?
A 59:59 would have put him in the world’s top 26 in 2024 so far.

@NicoDelon He was 19 for that, so I think he’s probably better now. I’d guess he could definitely break 27
@dominic He could. The gigantic question mark is how the half fits into his season. It’s coming on the heels of the Olympics and several meets, where he was peaking for 1500 and 5000. Maybe he has a sub 60 half in him but tomorrow?
@NicoDelon I agree, it’s kind of a weird thing to do. But I don’t think sub 60 is such a high bar that he’s not capable of it tomorrow. I could see him going for the European record (low 59) and even if he misses that, he’s got a decent amount of room
