'murder' means an UNLAWFUL killing. Fun fact: The overwhelming majority of police killings are lawful, and they protect police and citizens from threats of great bodily harm or death. Most are not only justified, they are simply necessary for the safety of the community. On the flip-side, 99.99% of killings of police officers actually are murder.
I challenge you to actually watch some of the body camera footage of these shootings, and not just the cases in the news where the shootings are known to be unjustified. It will help broaden your perspective on the matter.
@Gus I get it man. I actually went through every police shooting in my town in the last 8 years earlier. There's a lot less epic shootouts and cold blooded cases than you'd think. Out of the 15ish I read, 2 potentially could have been police error or cold blood explained away, and 2 or 3 could be considered a real gunfight. The depressing majority of cases is either people on a lot of drugs with a gun being really really stupid, firing once or twice somewhere in police's general direction or people who just want to want to die and would rather the police force do it for them. These cases are increasing not because the police are getting more brutal, but rather that life in our country is getting more depressing. These markets are mainly just for fun. Personally, I feel like just because a killing is state sanctioned shouldn't make it not-murder, especially because these deaths are very preventable, just often not by the police themselves contrary to public oppinion. I also didn't know body cam was public so I might look into that.
@Gus and still, I'll change the wording. Usually my markets don't get popular enough to get these kind of posts, so in a sense you are a good sign 😀
There have been 5 days so far in 2024 when police did not kill people in the U.S..
Just a brutal stat as we’re getting to late Feb.
@mattyb it hasn't updated since the 2nd Feb. But last year there were only 14 kill-free days/year, so 5 is good (and possibly a sign of reporting delay).
