Yes, and he should.

Whether anyone likes it or not, the election was one of the most decisive in memory. There is no ambiguity about who Americans want to lead and what their opinion of Trump's crimes are.

Biden should pardon Trump because the country is not served by forcing Trump into a position where he needs to interfere with the Justice Department's investigations into himself.

@SteveSokolowski he's pledged to interfere regardless, do you think he won't if he is pardoned?

@MartinRandall No, I'm saying that the system is done with. There are a lot of people on Manifold that seem to believe that there will be a "rule of law" in America.

As I said above, even if you oppose Trump, the people have spoken. This was not some sort of fluke, or caused by fraud, or a split decision. It was unambiguous and decisive - a majority of Americans chose to end the current system of democratic rule.

I've been searching this morning to try to confirm this, and I haven't found any other case in a country where such a transition occurred was free, fair, and wanted by the people. It's likely unprecedented in history, as it usually occurs when a strongman comes to power by first lying and then eroding away institutions. Nowhere else has there ever been a coup attempt that failed, where the country's superior court ruled that the leader had absolute authority, and then power was ceded later by peaceful means without duress.

The people do not believe that what Trump did should be a crime and they rejected the system of democratic government. Trump will have the power of a dictator, so he should be pardoned now to respect the will of the people.
