Chinese airspace is pretty empty right now and all kinds of rumours are flying around as to why. What is the real reason?

@Gigacasting Yeah, I saw these, but the reasons I didn't include this option
1/ It seems established that a bunch of flights DID get cancelled.
https://www.theepochtimes.com/mass-cancellation-of-flights-across-china-reasons-unclear_4749582.html
2/ Further I'm not sure about the eyeballing analysis and explanation provided in article/images above because even the eastern/southern areas in the original image in the Market description are fairly sparse. Compare to the image I just pulled.
3/ I guess the remaining question is whether it out of the ordinary for these many flights to be cancelled - and the follow up question is "as compared to what?". i.e. pre-pandemic or during the pandemic? The official explanations so far have revolved around covid/pandemic management, so that would be the fallback answer in this case.
@BTE Important to remember that in China the military is not universally loyal to the president, but rather has separate factions that are loyal to regional political leaders.
@BTE Yes sorry, this option is for a coup in general, with the military involved (not necessarily leading it)
@akhil This would be the most interesting, but the military is probably not going to lead the coup if it happens.
