He's 25 and I'm 35. We've been dating for 18 months and living together for 1 year. Things are going really well overall. We talked early on about both wanting marriage and children, but we don't have concrete timelines and aren't engaged.

(Question resolves yes if we have a biological child together born before January 1, 2030.)

Your biological clock is ticking!

what are your jobs? does IVF/surrogacy count as biological child? have either of you been in long term relationships before?

  1. I’m a software engineer, he’s an electrical engineer.

  2. Yes, IVF or surrogacy counts, as long as we’re the bioparents. (Also, you didn’t ask, but I have 6 eggs frozen and am planning to freeze more within the next year.)

  3. We’ve each been in several relationships before that lasted over a year. (I’ve dated 4 people seriously before this, I think he’s seriously dated 2 or 3.)

Also seems relevant: we’re monogamous.

but we don't have concrete timelines and aren't engaged

If you’re comfortable answering, do you consider engagement/marriage to be a prerequisite for you having children?

It’s not necessary for me, but my boyfriend would like to be married before having kids.
