Doesn't have to have custom characters, those could be pre-loaded for this market. Inspired by the work on Unreal Engine alpha!

Video -> textured mesh is really old technology. But it has never been good enough to be used in an actual video game. The new thing now is that lighting properties are also extracted and that stuff like nanite makes the high poly counts not impact performance too much.

@firstuserhere So what exactly do you expect for resolution?

@gigab0nus Awareness :)

This is already a thing. I've literally done this. There are free mobile apps where you record a video and it processes it into a mesh that you can import into e.g. Unity.

It doesn't encode view-dependent information afaict (like nerfs, or more recently gaussian splatting) but it is 3D.

@firstuserhere Do the links in this thread indicate a resolution, or did I misinterpret the question?

@cloudprism I've not checked it out yet, will do and give a proper response

predictedYES

@cloudprism sometime today

@cloudprism didn't know this existed haha, this is great stuff. It looks good to me a far as the market is concerned. Is there a way for an average user to try this out?

predictedYES

@firstuserhere Depends on what counts as the "average user". The accessibility of this field is increasing, which also increases the number of users. The first video I linked is the most accessible.

@cloudprism I'm leaning towards a yes resolution ofc, but gonna wait a bit to see if anyone objects and also to try it out. Lets say a few hrs. @brubsby your thoughts?

@firstuserhere from my point of view this has been possible for a long time, and the only moving piece is how much friction is involved. and it looks like it's getting less and less "friction-y" in recent times.

predictedYES

@firstuserhere If you make something in the process of trying it out that you'd like to share it'd be neat to see it linked here!

@cloudprism Definitely, but it's going on my list of things to do and I'll share once I get to it, probably in a week. Don't wanna lock everyone's mana up, so resolving.

Isn't photoscanning just a low fps version of a video?
