Thorne-Żytkow objects are red giant stars that have enveloped a neutron star. No Thorne-Żytkow objects have been definitively identified as they are rare and difficult to distinguish from other red giant stars. The accretion of matter on the spinning neutron star in the core of a Thorne-Żytkow object can emit gravitational waves. The observation such gravitational waves from a red giant star would be one way to definitively confirming the existence of Thorne-Żytkow objects. Next generation gravitational wave experiments may be able to detect these gravitational waves and in this way confirm the existents of  Thorne-Żytkow objects.

This market resolves YES if befor the end of 2040 gravitational waves are detected that are localized to a star consistant with a Thorne-Żytkow object. If no such diection is made or they do not have an identified electromagnetic counter-part this market resolves NO.

Thorne-Zytkow objects were theorized in this 1977 paper (so they've remained unconfirmed for the past 46 years). It seems that there are six candidate TZOs?
