Will Anthropic or OpenAI add a higher tier subscription >= 400$ in 2026?

When the 200$ subscriptions launched almost everyone (including me) were skeptical and thought no one would pay so much, now I personally know more people than I can count who have them. I have both ChatGPT and Claude Max. I wonder if we will see an even higher tier introduced from OpenAI or Anthropic this year. I chose 400$ since it felt right.

If they're making losses on subscriptions which are making effective and full use of their allowance, which I infer they do from the continued efforts by Anthropic to restrict how and where people are allowed to use them, then a higher tier subscription just means bigger losses.

Particularly if the "too big for Max" crowd are better at maxing out whatever they're given, this might not be a great idea. There's been plenty of demand for bigger plans for a while, my guess is that it's just not been in their business interest to provide it.

@jbeshir they are still in the “lose money but grow market share” phase of the business.

Pricing-source update for the >= $400 threshold:

  • OpenAI's current ChatGPT pricing page describes Pro as 5x or 20x more usage with GPT-5.5 Pro access; OpenAI's Pro help page says the $200 Pro plan remains the highest usage tier and the $100 tier is the lower-usage Pro option.

  • Claude's current pricing page lists Max as starting at $100 with 5x or 20x more usage than Pro; Anthropic's Max-plan help page lists the two web tiers as Max 5x at $100/month and Max 20x at $200/month.

So as of this check, I see both companies with higher-end consumer tiers below the market's $400 cutoff, not an official self-serve >=$400 tier yet. The main YES path still looks like a new ultra tier, enterprise-ish seat packaged as a consumer/self-serve subscription, or a major add-on plan before year-end.

It's probably not a big step for them now. Codex already let you choose between the $100 pro and $200 pro
