Will challenge bets generate 200+ DAUs for Manifold by the end of the year?

Challenge bets are a new feature we recently introduced to Manifold which allow users to invite their friends to bet against them on a particular question.

If, at the end of the year, challenge bets have lead to a permanent and lasting increase of 200 or more users to our daily active user (DAU) count, this will resolve affirmatively. You can see our current DAUs here: https://manifold.markets/stats.

Assessing the long-term counterfactual impact of a new feature is obviously very tricky. I will use my best judgment and will probably rely on correlational evidence + a good story (i.e. if I see a spike of thousands of signups coming from challenge bets, and solid retention of the users who joined, that would be good evidence).

Feel free to move this market by suggesting ways to improve challenge bets (or our marketing of them)!

Don't see this happening without a rather creative marketing strat

Is it fair to say that challenge bets are essentially limit orders where the other side must put up the same amount? If so, I have a couple of suggestions to consolidate all the different ways to bet:

  • Move the limit order book to a tab in the comments section

  • Consolidate the limit order / challenge bet UI to one thing

@akhil Same amount of shares but not mana (ie could be betting 2:1 so challengee would only need to put up half the mana).
Kinda like an OTC limit order tho yeah.

Hmm maybe I'll become an OTC manifold trader that could be fun!

@SG We still get loans on challenge bets right?

@SG Oh and do they still contribute to profit (for leaderboard etc)

@GeorgeVii Yup you're right, same number of shares not manna. And still makes sense to consolidate challenges with limit orders

I think usage and retention would improve with growth hacking and focused UX changes specific to that workflow. I had made a more detailed comment on the feature list I believe.
