With gridlock in the republican ranks, will some democrats vote for a more moderate candidate for speaker of the house?
House Democrats probably wouldn't vote for moderate Republicans for the speakership. Nowadays, politics is pretty intense and parties stick together, so it's hard to see them crossing the aisle for something as crucial as the speakership. They may cooperate in some places, but the spokesperson is like the captain and must have high loyalty as a condition. Since the event is highly polarized, it is difficult to imagine the Democratic Party supporting the Communist Party in this important role.
@eppsilon I suppose relatively speaking there are. The more I think about this particular prediction the more it seems like it won’t happen. It has been years since any Republican has jumped party lines to change their party affiliation, which you think would’ve happened a while ago.
